God’s Design For His People

Rev Busuyi Olabode

Zechariah 1 vs 7-17,

In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying, “The LORD was very angry with your fathers. Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: Return to me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the LORD. Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, As the LORD of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.” On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying,

“I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’ So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the LORD has sent to patrol the earth.’ And they answered the angel of the LORD who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, ‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest.’ Then the angel of the LORD said, ‘O LORD of hosts, how long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?’ And the LORD answered gracious and comforting words to the angel who talked with me. So the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster. Therefore, thus says the LORD, I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; my house shall be built in it, declares the LORD of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem. Cry out again, Thus says the LORD of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.'”

The vision of the Lord defines a lot of things pertaining to His people. He allowed so many things to be, like the captivity of His people and their settling in another country governed by another law but that was to last for a time for when the due time came for them to be set free from the kind of life they have found, He declared freedom.

Looking at our country, Nigeria today, it is discovered that there are several prayer mountains and no other country seems to pray as much as we do, yet things remain the same. It looks like God doesn’t answer prayers again because nothing seems to be happening. People write and say one thing or the other to castigate the country. To those who pray, the state of the country is abnormal.  It is not impossible to believe that there is nowhere else in the world where people assemble like it is done in Nigeria yet everything looks plain and still; there is a power that has made this to be. It is hard to remember when last job vacancies were announced in the papers anywhere, yet people complain of lack of employment though employment is being given to some in many organisations. These happenings are beyond the powers of the Nations of the earth; there is nothing they can and want to do about it, so they stay still.

Zechariah 1:15,

And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster.

The Lord has chosen Jerusalem as his habitation. He has chosen to raise a city for himself and dwell in it as seen in

Isaiah 11:9-10,

They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples–of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.

God’s appointment which is to raise a mount unto himself that he called a place of their rest, a place where their life can find His free flow is clearly seen in this scripture.

God does not want His people to run parallel with the earth because they were called to run a different race. There is no space for them to run together with the earth. God’s displeasure is based on their compromise on the earth. They have been subjected to another law even they have natural things. Subjection is not poverty because they bought house there, they bought lands, and they married and prospered even more than the citizens of the land.

These acquisitions seem to be the major concern of the church today. It is believed they show how prosperous we are but despite how rich we are, we are still suffering. The reason is there is a law we should answer to. The children of this world understand their law and walk in it; we cannot imitate them because we do not understand their law.  As Christians, we should know that there is a law we are all subjected to as long as we remain in Babylon.

The law you serve is higher than you. Any law you choose to answer to is your God. When Zion is built, the Law shall proceed from it and nations will answer to it. Prosperity is not just about what is seen in the physical. When the Israelites were given manna, it was prepared and designed not to give them extra fats. They gathered so much in their pans, filling them up still they could not eat to their fill. They took the manner and looked down on it saying, ‘how many of this are we going to eat?’ It was a training of righteousness for them, teaching them that their fatness is not in what they eat or have as it is written the belly for meat, meat for the belly, all will perish. The manna was not for pleasure but for strength but the children of Israel despised it making God unhappy with them. There was a law governing the whole land and the Lord wanted to bring His People into their own land, where they will live by their own law.

In Jeremiah, the Lord told them to build houses, plant vineyard and live like every other person, but it got to a time the Lord became jealous because of their captivity. It took somebody like Daniel to remind the Lord of His promise to set them free after seventy years. This shows that what God promised the believers is a place, not a law. The way Nigerians react to issues is as a result of the psyche of a people, and the enemy has used that against them severally.

Zechariah 1:17,

‘Cry out again, Thus says the LORD of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.'”

It is an issue of a horn of authority.  Authority is something that God respects. Whatever happens, on whose account do we answer? Who asked us to come?

Their life design didn’t fit into that place. All the visions of God to Zechariah were visions on how he will prosper the land. The prosperity will be about the Lord’s gold and silver. So, all of these prophecies are clearly new testament prophecies. The very essence of them is to bring the New Testament prophecy to pass; to bring an alliance of peace between the two. It is about the church.  One thing is to see the prophecy and another to see the glory embodied. For those whose hearts are still after Jerusalem, like Daniel, the Lord will appear. It takes God’s revelation to see faith in our hearts as we look into the law of liberty and agree with it, then he counts us to be righteous. There is need for the nations to be consoled because blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted. The law that is binding us helps us to know which direction we should take. The concern of God is the souls in captivity. The essence of worship to the Lord is that He wants souls to be saved. He wants His ways to be known to Souls. The table must be turned from within. The lord will declare judgement that will bring His people out. When the Lord came into Egypt, His hand was mighty on them and this same way He will bring His people out of Babylon. The Lord will see them out as the vision prophesied.

Zechariah 3:1-2

‘Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, O Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?’

Authority is something that God respects. Who has the power to authorise? So, all through their days in Babylon, Prophets only spoke about what God will do in the days to come, not about their 70 years stay because that place is not where God designed for them. They have been used to Babylonian silver and gold, but God said He will bring His own silver and gold when he builds His city. The very essence of this is about the New Testament prophecy and the first thing to do is to raise a high priest that will mediate for his house. So, the New Testament is about the church, it is programmed to fulfil these prophecies. And the Lord is labouring for the church today to see his house in glory. Many churches are still enjoying the Babylonian experience and see it as enjoyment, but only few have the mind of Daniel, to see them going back to Jerusalem. All the Lord is asking from us, is Faith, you can’t do anything about it, because it will fulfil his timing. As we look into the law of liberty, and our heart says ‘Yes’, then he counts us to be righteous. We are waiters like Simeon, who is waiting for the consolation of Israel, ‘Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted’. If our heart is not mourning at this time, then something is wrong with us. If the world likes your work and program, you cannot trust it because it may not be from a sincere heart. If you understand the law of the land, you can find your way prosperous in the land (Babylon). Concern of God is to see Saul delivered from captivity; he wants Soul to know Him and be saved. That is why before the people come out of the Land at this time, there must be a declaration of release and the table must be turned against their enemies, the Lord will declare a decree and judgement against their enemies, so that, when they come out, they will know the Lord is more powerful than His people. The way God brought them out of Egypt is not the way he brought them out of Babylon, the enemies in Egypt still went after them. But, this time around, they will know that they can’t hunt them down anymore, and they can’t be overtaken. God has to design authorities like Joshua to be a high priest. Babylon is a system that means like economic, and the day the devil built Babylon, he rested. That is why the Lord said we should love not the world, and everything in it. So, once he was able to build Babylon, he stayed away, because in the merchandise of Babylon, they are the souls of men. The blindness of Judah, is not to see the bad or corruption in it, but to see that he is prospering, they trade souls in exchange with gold.  For a nation not to have a king, and it is moving smoothly, that means the senators there have some terrible statures, he, (Nebuchadnezzar) left for seven years and still came back to meet a standing kingdom. So, when you are there, and you are eating fat, it means you are blind and not seeing like Daniel saw, that their meat was corruption. But, this is a time to trigger liberation from within. Read the book of Esther, you will see these things spelt out clearly, but the main thing and the only thing in the Bible is to see the enemy being put under us. You can see it in different ways of the books of the bible, as they are all saying the same thing. ‘But the Lord said to my Lord, sit down at my right hand until I make you enemies, your footstool’, that is the aim, but the Lord is coming to us again, to deliver us and He will let this light shine again in Nigeria and in the Nation at large. ‘Like in the mirror we see you…… the lamb upon the throne…’

Prayers: Lord, every request at this time is turned over to you, where there seems to be no way, you are making rivers to flow in the wilderness, and at this time, you are making way for people and for the house, we ask for special help, that you will show up, bring deliverance and wrought deliverance for Israel, Let your intervention be seen in all lives and in all challenges. Grant us all entrance at this time. Amen!
